How we shoot wedding details

Today I thought it would be a neat to blog about how we shoot our bride’s wedding details. I thought it would be easier If I broke it up into sections, so today I’ll start off by talking about how we shoot our brides wedding shoes, and how I use our brides flowers for all her details. If you follow me on Instagram , you know tha I love fresh flowers!! So for every first basic shot, I challenge myself with the second shot, with either her bouquet or the color of her wedding. Come.. take a look..

I always make sure that I have my “safe” shot as us photographers call it, and then I play. For the first shot I am focused at the tip of her shoe at a f/2. I simply placed her shoes on the bride’s dress and took a shot. For the next shot, I laid one of the BMs dress down and shot from above. I used my 50mmL at a f/2.

By adding my bride’s bouquet in the back brings color to the photo, and laying her shoes on her dress, brings out a little sophistication!

I just Loved these shoes! Here I added her veil and used her color to make her shoes that much more sexy! For both shots, my focus points are at the foot.

I love adding details to our brides bouquets.. This was her something blue that she wore in her hair. To the right was her program for her ceremony.

I will also add necklaces, earrings, bracelets and wedding rings to bouquets to make the photo have color.

Wedding rings.. I love using flowers for the wedding ring shots and Ed enjoys taking the simple shots of the rings. Which works for us! We use the Canon macro 100mm L to get the below photos. We use manual focus and we are usually leaning against something and holding our breath when taking these shots!

For all of our photos above we are using natural light. The venues usually have a large sliding door or window. I highly suggest utilizing all the light you can with a reflector. Turn off any lamps that may be on and don’t be afraid to bump up your ISO. If you are confident with shooting wide open, go for it!! You will get beautiful bokeh that everyone loves. Be creative with your work, Take charge but and most importantly, have fun!
